Torpedoed!

We keep our liquor in a canoe bookshelf in the living room.  At least that is where the hard liquor lives.  When we drink hard liquor, it is generally in the living room, or else in the back yard.  As a result, I had to work with that theme when it came time to pair the new chair with a side table of sorts.  The new chair is Tom's "Scotch Chair." After spending  boo-coo bucks on the chair, the solution was to re-purpose something we already had.  My goal was to do something cool and an idea came to me in the middle of the night.

My father had an old WWII torpedo shell that he used as an ashtray.  Unfortunately, smoking killed him --  but I kept the thing anyway. This old artillery accessory is now being set upside down so that the bottom can serve as a rest for a glass.  It's kind of cool with the Mid-Century modern vibe of the chair.  At least it is for me from a sentimental perspective because my father had the shell in the 1960's.

Teddy is slowly acclimating to the new furniture but I don't think we will have to worry about her trying to sit in the chair.  She does like to sit at the end of the foot rest and stare at us. But once TBG is sitting with his Scotch she settles at the bottom.  That's the way life is supposed to be.  A guy sitting in a cool leather chair, drinking single malt scotch, with a golden retriever (named Teddy Roosevelt) at his feet, resting his drink on an old WWII torpedo shell.  I think the only way to make it more perfect would be for him to be reading some Ernest Hemming way.

    1. It's interesting, which is what I like. And best of all, something we already had!

    1. It isn't a deep and fluffy sort of chair, but the design conforms to your back and it is very comfortable. It's nice when something can both look good and feel good!

  3. I love the one-of-a-kind items in a home. It looks great. I would knock the glass off or knock the whole thing over.

    1. I worry about that! It's why I positioned it so close to the wall. Luckily, TBG is a careful drinker -- not like his sloppy drunk of a wife!
