I don't know about anyone else, but I am sick of rain. I can't recall a day in the past month where we haven't had some precipitation. Our yard looks crazy bad. Weeds are everywhere. Grass is growing between the flagstone. There has not been any window of opportunity to work on the back yard and boy does it look bad. When we first moved in, there was grass and a big tree. The area was one big mud puddle. We have it a lot better now. Alas, poor Teddy is not allowed out back anyway. While I feel badly for her recuperation restrictions, with this weather, she would hardly be getting out anyway.
The siding is taking a beating and we'll have to replace it this summer. The old wood shingles are soaked and breaking apart. The empty house next door is in sad shape but the absent owner did have windows put in two weeks ago. Probably because a neighbor who shall remained nameless complained to the town that the ones they left open all of the time were in sad shape, with most having at least one pane of broken glass. When we finally do have time and sunshine to sit in this area, I am looking forward to having an easier time -- I picked up a cheap plastic storage container for the cushions at Aldi. It was $39 but I had a $10 coupon from another location because it is closed for construction and the coupons were to entice me to shop at a different one. I'm equal distance from both so the coupon was a boon!
They super sun-tolerant stonecrop is doing well with the non-stop rain. Excessive sun doesn't kill it and apparently flooding doesn't either. Regardless, it still looks ratty!
The amount of weeds we are seeing is discouraging. If it stops raining next weekend, TBG will try to pull them. We have landscape cloth under the gravel, but the grass and weed doesn't seem to know that is supposed to be a barrier.
It has been tough getting Teddy out because we need her incision to stay dry. We are able to take her on short walks up and down the street. She is actually walking fine. Her recovery is going very fast but we don't dare let her off leash our out of her confinement. We rely a lot on tranquilizers because otherwise she would drive us crazy in the evening. It takes about two hours for a pill to take effect.
All the well-wishes and encouragement have helped a lot. I believe we did the right thing and now that the surgery is over, I feel less anxiety. She thinks the whole thing sucks but I also figure once it's all over, she'll forget it. TBG and I will remember it for a long time!
The answer to your question is God. Only God can control the weather. I wrote something similar in a comment on someone's blog, and one of the commenters got angry at me and mocked my belief.
ReplyDeleteSo maybe it's time to build an ark after all!
DeleteHow depressing. We've had very little rain this spring and have actually had to water the lawn to keep it alive.
ReplyDeleteI wish there was a feasible way to send our overflow to you!
DeleteI like the look of greenery between the flagstones. I thought it was deliberate. There is a short plant for that, but my feverish state keeps me from remembering. Even the leaves decomposing on the cloth will provide a place for seeds blown there to survive. From here it looks pretty, but I am not looking for weeds. Your dog will be like a new pup when he is released from confinement and is back in the yard.
ReplyDeleteI have suggested we just weed whack the growth to keep it short as I don't think that is horrible either, but there are some tall weeds that have to go!
DeleteSo good to hear that Teddy's recovery is going faster than expected. I don't do well when it's gray outside or if rains every day. I get very depressed. I hope things dry out soon so you can feel the sun shine on your face again.
ReplyDeleteIt was sunny today and when I woke up and saw it, I was shocked. We may get a break after all!
DeleteWhen I first saw the flagstone picture, I thought, oh, that looks good. Little did I know that you thought otherwise. :) I was wondering where Teddy went potty if she couldn't go in the backyard. I guess it's on her walks?
ReplyDeleteWhen you see the flagstone up close, it's kind of messy. Teddy will pee in the yard but wasn't going poo. So after a few days, we started short walks and she goes number 2 then. I think we are ready to graduate to going around the block but not ready for her to be loose in the yard on her own.
