I Keep Getting Younger

Today is my birthday and I am apparently getting younger.  Although I've reach the ripe age of 56, the bakery thought I was younger.  TBG didn't catch the cake fail because he sent his driver out to pick it up, since he was stuck back at work closing up shop when it was near closing time for the bakery.  He even promised the driver a slice.  I guess I can spare it, since this is my second cake of the day.  The architects got me a luscious chocolate cake with cheesecake filling.  That was in addition to the junk food breakfast I brought in.  Someone is not tracking her food intake today!

I am a Re-User

This strange "Spider Mon" baby t-shirt from Jamaica made it home with us because The Big Guy's BFF has a baby.  We don't care about gender and got it even though it's for a little girl. It is cool.  It didn't seem to make sense to me to wrap it or bag it in a cutesy pink baby theme either.  Our friend doesn't know other babies and what a waste of paper.  Instead, I used brown paper wrapping that came from a package we got at work.  I see sheets of brown paper packing material and I have to grab it, fold it up, and bring it home.  I've been using it for gifts for years.

It's a Wrap!

For me, wrapping presents is like cleaning house.  You have to get really messy first!  This is how our dining room table looked on Sunday.  I had the gift bags for work assembled and then I had to wrap presents.  This past year I cleaned up my home office and put away all my wrapping supplies. That meant I had to pull it all out and bring it downstairs.  Most years, I buy supplies at the end of the season, but I didn't do that much last year because I already had a lot.  This year I'm going to have to do it again as I had feared I would run out of paper and ribbons -- yes, I am fearful even though I have all this stuff!

Christmas at Work

Every year I make some sort of holiday offering for my co-workers.  This year, there are six people on my team, along with others who are temporarily squished into our row too.  There are also a couple of my other cronies I wanted to gift.  Last year I gave out big bars of cranberry soap.  This year I made small gift bags.  I used an assortment of items that I could buy in batches of a dozen.

Lavender Scent-Crafts

This is my home-made version of a reed scent diffuser.  With a huge cache of lavender harvested before the first freeze, I had to do something with the stems I had left after pulling all the leaves off.  The oil in the bottom is a mixture of canola and drops of scent oil (the type you put into a wall-plug diffuser).  I had a small mayonnaise jar with a plastic lid. I was able to drill a messy hole into it and stuff in a few wooden skewers and stems.  We will see if it scents my bedroom.

Playing Favorites

Today is TBGs birthday.  Gifting him should be a challenge since I am in a tough spot from a time perspective.  I am back at work but once I get home, I need to rest, ice, do PT and am generally just wrung out.  Luckily, he is low maintenance and just hitting him with his favorites works out just fine.  He's one of those "I don't want anything" sort of people who is still easy to shop for because he likes what he likes.

55 Going on 15...

Does this look like the bedside table belonging to a 55 year old woman?  Well, it ought to because it's mine!  My birthday was last week on Tuesday.  There was a present waiting for me in the kitchen from Teddy -- a yellow dog solar light.  TBG told me I'd have to wait until the 5th for his present for me to be delivered.  At first I was worried, because he came home with a new Viper toilet for the basement.  Turns out he secretly brought in two nightstands before I got home!

Fake on the Outside, Real on the Inside

"Neighbor Dave" was one of the people to took care of Teddy while we were on a cruise.  We opted to keep her home and have both ND and my sister look after her.  She's just more comfortable at home.  ND is a cop so he works long shifts, always on the second.  This meant he wouldn't be around at dinner time, so my sister would stop by and feed that.  She passes our house every night on her way home as it is.  ND came home from his shift and picked her up for a sleep-over at his house.  He fed her a late night snack and breakfast.  She got to sleep with him.  My sister dubbed her "slutty girl" because she was doing shameless overnights!  I found it endearing that she "unmade" our bed and slept on TBGs pillows when she was home.
