Summer Quilt

I have been looking for a vintage/thrifted quilt or bedspread for the summer but have had no luck.  As a result, I had to suck it up and shop retail.  A lightweight plush blanket has been on my bed all winter, but because it is all synthetic, it is too hot in the summer.  My goal was to find something 100% cotton with a flamboyant pattern.   While I had been looking for something more tie-dye or psychedelic, nothing along those lines was to be found.  I settled on a paisley pattern that I can live with, but I choked on the price!

I always have a set price I am looking to come under, and it was $39.  No such luck!  The quilt I found was $59 on sale and that was half off!  Jeepers, retail is expensive -- and this is why I avoid it.  Were I to give myself more time to shop, I might have done better, but the warm weather has come on us suddenly and seems to  be here to stay.  The room is hot even with the fan, so the next objective is to find a micro-sized air conditioner to fit into the new smaller window.  If there is one thing I need, it's a comfortable set-up to sleep.  IMO, if you have to get up and go to work each day, you deserve to sleep well the night before.

TBG gets annoyed at my frugality, but the price of things make me think twice as to whether I really need them or not.  To me, this was a little frivolous, so I will just have to get past it because the deal is done.  Am I crazy or what?

  1. I like it - sometimes you have to pay a bit more to get something you really like and, hey, you deserve it! I figure if I save somewhere else I can split the difference when something is more. Maybe I'M crazy :)

    1. That's mostly how I look at it too. In another month or two, the sting of the price should wear off!

The price would gall me, too! It is nice, though. I must have an ac! Lack of sleep due to heat or noise or whatever is stressful on the body, the heart in particular. So, this is for your health.

    1. Our central AC doesn't work well upstairs because there are no return vents. If I have to, I will sleep in the basement where it is really cool. But I prefer the bed upstairs. It's funny, since TBG had a heart attack, he isn't as sensitive to the heat as he used to be and feels the cold more. We are reversing roles!

    1. Thanks! Hubs does like it a lot, so I feel little bit better. And he told me to lighten up!

  4. It will last you for years so if you think of it like that it's not so bad really.

    1. I had seen cheaper ones and they didn't look as if they would last as long. You are right!

  5. It is pretty and useful for half the year and so the cost is averaged out. Plus being frugal in other areas makes it ok to have a "splurge" once in a while.
